Scholarship
established for North students

You may
have seen Roger Twibell on ESPN, but now he wants to pay for
your college. He and his two brothers, former alumni of SM
North, have set up a scholarship exclusively for North students.
The scholarship
is in memory of Roger's father, Rex Twibell, and is currently
being offered to a student who is preferably active in athletics,
graduating this year and from a single-parent home. This year,
all applicants were suggested by faculty, however, next year
the recipient will most likely be chosen on an application
basis. The final decision will be made on March 1.
"My dad
took such good care of us, and we were all lucky to be athletically
gifted, so we all got scholarships," said Twibell, "I just
want to grant this to another student who is college bound."
The only
previous recipient of the scholarship was Jay Small, class
of 2001. He received a renewable $1,250 annually for as long
as he was active in sports at Baker University, his school
of choice.
"This
is a very generous gift Mr. Twibell is making available to
a student…and it is his way of honoring his father, whom he
felt needed honoring," said John Stone, SM North counselor.
"It's
just a lot of years watching kids who would like to accomplish
a lot in college and high school. The obligations they face
in sports, school, and life can sometimes be too much," said
Twibell, "but hopefully this young man or woman will find
the help they need to accomplish what's out there."
